Three times Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic was a man on a mission after the former world number one beat Japan's Kei Nishikori 6-3 3-6 6-2 6-2 on Wednesday to reach the semi-finals for the eighth time.

The Serbian battled through 6-3 3-6 6-2 6-2 on Centre Court to set up a meeting with either Rafael Nadal or Juan Martin del Potro in the semi-finals on Friday.

The only other times Federer has surrendered a two-set lead came against Lleyton Hewitt in Switzerland's 2003 Davis Cup semi-final loss to Australia in Melbourne, to David Nalbandian in the 2005 Masters Cup decider and to Jo- Wilfried Tsonga and Novak Djokovic at consecutive slams at Wimbledon and the US Open in 2011.

The 12-time major victor prevailed despite picking up two code violations and accusing umpire Carlos Ramos of "double standards".

"I think the first warning was unneccessary", said Djokovic, who was sanctioned in the second set for spearing his racquet into the court. I didn't harm the grass. But then the Japanese player, world number four in March a year ago, survived four break points early in the second set to level.

"The umpire said he didn't see. I don't think it's fair but it is what it is".

Despite his anger, Djokovic still reeled off 10 of the last 12 games of the quarter-final.

The semi-final will be the 32nd of Djokovic's Grand Slam career but he has had to fight to get there.

"I feel like I'm peaking at the right moment".

"Do you think I ruined the court?" he bellowed at Ramos.

With his 24th seeded opponent saving three break points to hold serve at 2-1, Djokovic bounced his racket off the baseline in frustration and then seethed after he was given a code of conduct warning.

He won the third set to snap Federer's 34-set winning streak at Wimbledon and Federer was clearly shaken as Anderson dominated the fourth set to drag the 20-time Grand Slam champion into a decider.

Djokovic's mood was not improved by Ramos choosing not to punish Nishikori for imitating his earlier offence of bashing a racquet into the ground.

That didn't seem to affect his focus, though, and neither did a time violation he was given when serving at 4-2, 30-30 in the fourth set.
