  • Andrey Yarmolenko of Borussia Dortmund and Jan Vertonghen of Tottenham Hotspur battle for possession during the UEFA Champions League group H match between Borussia Dortmund and Tottenham

West Ham have succeeded where the likes of Liverpool, Everton and AC Milan have all failed in the past by signing the elusive Andriy Yarmolenko.

The 28-year-old scored three goals in 18 appearances for the Bundesliga side after joining in August 2017.

A deal was concluded after the player's agent, Shbalii Vadim, travelled to the Hammers' Switzerland pre-season training base to finalise terms.

West Ham's joint-chairman David Sullivan says the club are determined to add more players this summer.

West Ham do not appear to be finished there, though, with talks said to be ongoing with Felipe Anderson and Fabian Balbuena, while a £25m bid for Newcastle United skipper Jamaal Lascelles has been knocked back.

Yarmolenko becomes the third player to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer, following the departures of Sokratis and Gonzalo Castro to Arsenal and Stuttgart respectively.

The team wants to achieve high things and I am excited for this challenge.

Yarmolenko's arrival follows that of midfielder Jack Wilshere, goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, defenders Issa Diop and Ryan Fredericks as new coach Pellegrini looks to improve upon a disappointing 13th-place finish last season.

Yarmolenko stands as the fifth signing in what has already been a busy summer for the east London club, with new manager Manuel Pellgerini looking to overhaul his squad. And Brazilian Anderson could be next.
