Cibulkova into Wimbledon quarters after umpire row

Hsieh argued, correctly, that the point should be replayed but the umpire would not budge, saying she could not remember if Hsieh's shot had gone in.

Two points from the first set at 4-5, 0-30 on Hsieh's serve, Cibulkova was awarded a set point, before having it taken away from her after a seven-minute delay involving discussions between both players, the chair umpire, and the match referee. "It was (a) really bad decision from the supervisor and from the umpire". But at Wimbledon, she's playing some of her best tennis and is now in the semifinals, after beating Dominika Cibulkova 7-5, 6-4 on Tuesday.

'Even if they are wrong or right, they are not going to change. The umpire told me she don't remember what happened after the ball.

Hsieh was furious and refused to continue, telling Zhang: 'I put the ball in!'

News Corp reports the match reached flash point when Cibulkova's return in the 10th game was called out and then corrected before Hseih's forehand landed back in play.

"This question I've been asked so many times this week, last week".

'I had no sympathy because it's just about the chair umpire.

"I'm a fair player". When I feel like this is something that should not happen, I would be maybe sympathy with her. The Latvian insisted nobody from her box said anything.

"For me it's really normal". Her indignant response hardly endeared her to the crowd who understandably had taken Hsieh's side.

Cibulkova is ranked 33rd in the world and controversially missed out on being seeded at Wimbledon when tournament officially moved up seven-time champion Serena Williams into the seedings despite the American being ranked outside the top 150 following her maternity leave.

Given the opportunity to criticise Cibulkova for protesting about the replay, Hsieh took the high road.

"I understand, she's a fighter", when asked if Cibulkova had shown a lack of sportsmanship. "It's quite common, even players on the court sometimes get exhausted and don't see something, it's normal". "This is not the first time this can happen, because sometimes you have two bounce and the chair umpire they don't see it".

Cibulova could have intervened but simply stood on the baseline in the advantage court as if to prepare for a 0-40 situation, even with the crowd chanting "replay the point...replay the point".
