However, while present players may have had issues with Conte, former Chelsea legend John Terry, who left after the league title-winning campaign had nothing but praise for him.

Conte's departure from the club had been delayed with the Blues working out a compensation package for the Italian, who had one year remaining on his contract.

Conte, 38, joined Chelsea in August of 2016 after two years in charge of the Azzurri.

He has won a Premier League title and an FA Cup in consecutive seasons.

The long-running saga over Antonio Conte's future appears to have been resolved with Chelsea sacking him as manager and appointing Maurizio Sarri, according to media reports on Thursday.

While analysing Kevin De Bruyne's performances for Belgium, Fabregas claimed that he himself had been "a bit more restricted" by a more disciplined role at Chelsea over the last two years.

However, they finished fifth in the 2017/18 season, missing out on a place in the Champions League and consequently costing Conte is job.

Even before that, Fabregas openly criticised Conte's defensive tactics as Chelsea were knocked out of the Champions League at the hands of Barcelona in February. He was eventually replaced by Carlo Ancelotti on May 23 after speculation that Sarri's buyout clause would be activated by another club. Gianfranco Zola could also return to Chelsea as part of the backroom or technical staff.

Napoli president Aurelio de De Laurentiis has confirmed that Jorginho is heading to Chelsea FC after the Blues offer the club and player a better financial package than Manchester City.

Sarri is expected to be in charge of Chelsea's pre-season training camp in Australia.

Sarri could be followed by midfielder Jorginho from Napoli, with Chelsea willing to pay £50m, plus £7m in bonuses, for the pair.
