BC to fast track applications for intercity bus service after Greyhound exit

All passenger and freight service will be discontinued in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba and nearly all of British Columbia, with the exception of the Vancouver-Seattle run.

"But simply put, the issue that we have seen is the routes in rural parts of Canada-specifically Western Canada-are just not sustainable anymore".
In a statement, the company called the decision "regrettable", blaming it on declining ridership in rural communities, increased competition from subsidized national and inter-regional passenger transportation services, the entry of low-priced carriers, regulatory constraints, and increased vehicle travel.
Kendrick saysGreyhound Canada will continue to petition Ottawa to help fund transportation in northern communities.
"What should have happened was STC and the government could have taken a look at how they could have better utilized the public service that they were providing, whatever that could have meant", she said.
"Given the developments today, we need the federal government to step up and come up with a national solution that keeps Canadians connected across the country", Mason said in an email statement.
"The company has experienced significant losses despite continued efforts to return to viability".
