In an alert issued on Tuesday, the US Embassy in London is warning Americans of possible violence during President Trump's upcoming visit to the UK.

"Numerous demonstrations are planned" from July 12 to July 14, with a majority of protests occurring in central London on Friday, the embassy said in an alert Tuesday.

He will spend just one night in the capital before going to Prime Minister Theresa May's country retreat Chequers in Buckinghamshire.

"I have North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, I have the United Kingdom, which is in somewhat turmoil, and I have (Vladimir Putin)", Trump said as he set off on his trip to Europe which includes a meeting with the Russian President in the Finnish capital Helsinki.

Widespread protests are being planned across Britain to take place while the USA president is in the country.

With tens of thousands of Brits signed up to take part in the protests of President Trump's policies, the embassy further warned that "several of the events are expected to attract large crowds and there will be road closures in connection with these events".

The embassy advised Americans in the country to be aware of their surroundings, "keep a low profile", exercise caution if large gatherings are present, and monitor local media reports for updates.

Mr Khan was asked if he would have endorsed a giant black baby blimp of former president Barack Obama in protest during his presidency, or an image depicting Mr Khan as a pig despite that being offensive to Muslims.

"The Mayor supports the right to peaceful protest and understands that this can take many different forms", a spokesperson for the mayor said in a statement to Sky News.

Trump arrives in Britain on Thursday after a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit and thousands of protesters are expected to join demonstrations during his visit, including plans to fly a blimp over parliament portraying Trump as an orange, snarling baby.

The blimp has been granted permission to rise above the British Parliament for two hours on Saturday, after Trump arrives in the UK.
