  • Ahmed Shehzad: Pakistan batsman tests positive for banned substance

Earlier the PCB had tweeted that it will issue a charge sheet to the opener after Shehzad tested positive for a banned substance.

The Pakistan Cricket Board will issue a formal charge sheet on Tuesday, confirming reports in recent days that the 26-year-old had tested positive for a banned substance.

"Pakistan government's anti-doping agency review board wanted to be very careful and double check because a senior player was involved, hence it asked an Indian lab to re-check tests", a PCB had source said.

Once he receives the charge sheet Shehzad will be suspended, however if his B sample came back negative that suspension would be immediately lifted. The PCB tweeted confirmation of the failed test but said, according to ICC rules, it could not name the player until the result was backed up by Pakistan's anti-doping agency.

In fact, the report was received by PCB on Tuesday.

Pakistan's cricketers have a history of failing tests for performance enhancing drugs.

Once he has received the notice, Shehzad stands provisionally suspended and can not play - or be involved in any capacity - in worldwide matches, and games organised by any national cricket board or its affiliated members. A player has reportedly tested positive for a prohibited substance.

As per the reports, Ahmed Shehzad got tested during the Pakistan Cup. The domestic five-team one-day tournament was held from April 19 to May 1. In fact, the right-handed batsman Ahmed Shehzad was the leading run-getter with 372 runs while playing for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Meanwhile, Ahmed Shehzad had struggled to break into the Pakistan squad in the recent times.

He was part of Pakistan s Twenty20 squad for the team s two global matches last month, managing scores of 14 and 24, but missed out on playing for the tri-series Twenty20 in Zimbabwe which ended Sunday.
