WH adviser Navarro apologizes for 'special place in hell' slam at Trudeau

  • Trump Withdraws Endorsement Of G-7 Communique Over Trudeau Statements

"And that's what bad faith Justin Trudeau did with that stunt press conference", he said.

But of course Mr. Trudeau knows.

"It is at the very early stages, there has been no conclusion but that is an issue which the prime minister raised very clearly with the president in the bilateral meeting on Friday".

They were also thankful for the trade we do with the USA, our military aid, the underground railroad, the refugee program, our inclusivity and, of course, hockey and Tim Hortons.

Trump's tirade solidified Canadian politicians of all parties.

Bruce Heyman, a former United States ambassador to Canada, said Mr Navarro had "crossed a line".

Trump had made similar remarks late Saturday, accusing the Canadian leader of acting "meek and mild" during talks, before ther press conference.

The harsh, personal invective outraged members of Trump's own political party and threatened to poison US-Canadian relations that have been strained over abortive efforts to renegotiate a 24-year-old North American Free Trade Agreement and over Trump's decision to impose punishing tariffs on metal imports.

Navarro, in his interview on Fox, said Trump "did the courtesy to Justin Trudeau to travel up to Quebec for that summit" and that Trump had "bigger things on his plate" than the G7 meeting, namely his planned meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore.

However, despite Trump's heated rhetoric, the U.S. ambassador to Germany, Richard Grenell, has expressed confidence that the trade conflict can be settled, but said it would take some time. Trudeau and other world leaders like French President Emmanuel Macron pushed back, rejecting the notion that they were a national security threat to the United States. And I say, 'Push him around? "We just shook hands!'" Trump said Tuesday.

Mr. Trump's complaint is that Canada-U.S. discussions went well behind closed doors at the G7 meeting in La Malbaie, Que., but Mr. Trudeau made it sound different in public.

As the G7 summit ended in disarray last week, so did the long-standing alliance between the American and Canadian administration, following a debate over tariffs, counter-tariffs and some name-calling.

Mr. Trump's actions led to an extraordinary juxtaposition: an abrupt public feud and deterioration of ties between the US and Canada at the same moment as warm words and a detente between the USA and North Korea. On Tuesday, Mr. Trudeau insisted the U.S. President didn't take the sunset clause off the table.

Navarro's apology was unusual in that President Donald Trump and his aides have seldom walked back harsh and even incorrect statements. I really did, other than he had a news conference, that he had because he assumed I was in an airplane and I wasn't watching. For the message, the White House is most definitely not sorry.

"The president is using that as a cudgel in the negotiation process", he said. It's that Mr. Trump didn't understand he put the Canadian PM in a position where he had to.
