Trump trade adviser: ‘Special place in hell’ for Trudeau

  • Donald Trump withdraws endorsement of G7 joint statement, slams Trudeau

On Sunday, White House trade adviser Peter Navarro told Fox News that Trudeau "deserves a special place in hell" for trying to "stab (Trump) in the back on the way out the door", after Trump left the G7 in La Malbaie, Que.

The six other G7 member nations - Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom - are all subject to new USA tariffs on imported aluminum and steel, a source of public frustration and anger even before Trump tweeted Saturday that he wouldn't be signing the jointly-authored G7 communiqué. "And we don't want there to be one", the French leader said during a joint press conference Trudeau in Ottawa.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, California Democrat, said it's one thing for Mr. Trump to get angry, but quite another to ditch the agreement.

"Very dishonest and weak. Trudeau stuck our president in the back and that will not stand".

On Saturday, the leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) countries - Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States - concluded the two-day summit in the Canadian province of Quebec.

Trump has infuriated the European Union, Canada and Mexico by imposing tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.

"There remain good reasons to fight for the transatlantic partnership", she said, adding that the current round of trade tariffs that the United States and European Union have imposed on each other did not signal the end of a partnership. Kudlow said Trump won't let people "take pot shots at him" and that Trudeau "should've known better".

"Well, he holds a press conference and he says the U.S.is insulting".

"He ought to come out and apologize in the name of the western allies", Kudlow said of Trudeau. "It's a betrayal. Essentially double-crossing", he said.

The outburst against Mr Trudeau, and by association the other G-7 members, is only the latest incident in which Mr Trump has clashed with America's closest allies, even as he has had warm words for autocrats like Mr Kim and Russia's Vladimir Putin.

Appearing on MSNBC on Sunday morning, Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) smacked President Donald Trump across the snout for his meltdown following the G7 summit, which saw the president pitch a fit about Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau - before pulling out of a group statement that he had previously agreed to.

The White House advisers may be laying the groundwork to blame Trudeau if the meeting with the North Korean leader is unsuccessful.

CNN's Jake Tapper interjected: "So this was about North Korea?" "The non-factual part of this is Canada has enormous tariffs", said Kudlow. "Canada is the biggest single purchaser of US goods and services in the world". "I think it will be very positive", Trump said, without giving details.
