Trump says does not endorse G7 communique, after 'weak' Trudeau comments

  • Donald Trump took to Twitter after the G7 summit accusing Justin Trudeau of dishonesty

He tweeted from somewhere over the Pacific, en route to his "mission of peace" in Singapore with Kim Jong Un, North Korea's despotic ruler, that he had instructed his officials not to endorse the communiqué.

A later statement, released by a member of Mr Trudeau's communications team on Twitter, said there was nothing new in the Prime Minister's press conference.

The president also referred to Trudeau's "false statements", which he didn't explain. "Very dishonest & weak", he said of the Canadian leader. Instead, he focused on the need for other countries to reduce their barriers against the United States, such as Canadian duties on USA dairy. It could also cause fresh friction with his northern neighbour as tensions percolate over efforts to redraw the North American Free Trade Agreement. "We're not looking to play games", Trump added.

"It is impossible to predict what Trump will do next", said a senior G7 official on the summit outcome.

The 44th G7 summit occurred earlier this week, and things probably could have gone a little better. His threat to raise tariffs on cars is not new.

"Our national security relationship with Canada is vital and saves American lives". They exchanged views on energy exports from Canada.

"We went through it". "Those who doubted our capacity to work together will have seen our ability to deliver", he said. Expressing his frustration, Trump said, " Can't do that. Trump's tweets cited those comments.

He sent a tweet that suggested he stands by the G7 communique despite the president's second thoughts. "It's a attractive evening, a great weekend". "Angela and Emmanuel and Justin, I would say the relationshiip is a 10", he said.

Trump created a distraction when he walked in late for Saturday's breakfast meeting during the Group of Seven summit of leading industrialized nations being held in Quebec. Calling Modi a "beautiful man", Trump said he was informed of reduction in tariffs on imported motorcycles by the Indian PM but the USA was getting nothing with the cuts in the customs duty. "Be my guest", Macron told reporters Saturday. "And we don't want there to be one".

Trump called the summit a "one time shot" for Kim, but expressed optimism at the beginning of talks with the North Korean regime. The statement had been published online minutes before Trump's tweets.

Trump's about-turn also earned him a rebuke from long-time critic, Republican Senator John McCain, who tweeted to United States allies, "Americans stand with you, even if our president doesn't".

The president's sharp comments came as he is now en route to Singapore for a highly anticipated meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, set to be held on Tuesday. A subsequent visit in April this year warranted only a working lunch for the German leader, several days after fellow European Union leader Macron got the full, formal state dinner treatment from Trump. At the meeting, Mr Trump's counterparts brought binders of figures to the session devoted to trade in an attempt to persuade him that his belief that the rest of the world was unfair to America was mistaken. Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Corker, a Republican, introduced legislation this month that would curb the president's executive powers to impose tariffs.

"Crimea was let go during the Obama administration and you know Obama can say all he wants, but he allowed Russian Federation to take Crimea". And we charge nothing,"Trump said". "You can not conduct global economic policy in this manner".

"I figured", he said dismissively, when the questioner identified himself as representing CNN. "I hope Republicans grow a spine, really". "We're like the piggy bank that everybody is robbing", he said at a press conference before making an early exit from the two-day summit in La Malbaie, Quebec, where he met with leaders of Canada, Britain, France, Italy, Germany and Japan.

"I think there are various discussions about alternatives that would not be that, and that would not be entirely destabilizing for a trade deal, and I think we are open to creativity", he said.

Nebraska Republican Sen. Ben Sasse said in a statement, "Putin is not our friend and he is not the President's buddy". Our Tariffs are in response to his of 270% on dairy! "This, not tariffs and quotas, would be moving in the right direction".

And he was also asked for his thoughts on what Trump's move could mean for the future of the G7. Dawson expects it to do so again.

Shortly after Trudeau said that he was "happy to announce that we have released a joint communique by all seven countries" indicating that the United States had signed on, Trump announced the USA would reverse its decision and not sign on to the statement after all.
