Trump, Kim agree to repatriating U.S. military remains

  • Leader of North Korea Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump

United States and North Korea is to join efforts to build a lasting and stable peace regime on the Korean Peninsula.

The Singapore summit gave hope Tuesday to the families of the more than 7,000 US service members missing from the Korean War that they will finally get an accounting.

China on Tuesday praised the summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as historic and called for "full denuclearisation" to resolve tensions on the Korean peninsula.

The president said he and Kim "got along from the beginning" and the North Korean leader realized that he must get rid of his nuclear weapons.

South Korea was apparently caught off guard by President Trump's announcement that the U.S.is canceling their long held joint military exercises in exchange for a promise from North Korea to denuclearize.

Trump announced after he met with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore on Tuesday that he would suspend joint military exercises on the Korean peninsula. Then he said: "We will be stopping the war games, which will save us a tremendous amount of money unless and until we see the future negotiation is not going along like it should. Plus, I think it's very provocative". "We will be there together with North Korea along the way", Moon said in a statement.

South Korea said last month that the issue of USA troops stationed there was unrelated to any future peace treaty with North Korea and that American forces should stay even if such an agreement were signed.

However, Trump and Kim may need one more meeting to discuss existing problems, according to the U.S. president.

The United States and the DPRK commit to recovering POW/MIA remains, including the immediate repatriation of those already identified.

"The core of the U.S. The U.S.is ready, willing, and able, but hopefully, this will not be necessary".
