NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine is reportedly speaking to companies about privatizing the International Space Station.

The head of the United States space agency is in talks with several global companies about taking over day-to-day operations at the International Space Station in the coming years, USA media said on Tuesday. According to him, many large businesses are already interested in the venture.

Bridenstine did not reveal which companies he was speaking to because he said that those companies could find it "hard to close the business case".

"As a fiscal conservative, you know one of the dumbest things you can to is cancel programs after billions in investment when there is still serious usable life ahead", Cruz said earlier this year.

In a national survey of 2,541 USA adults conducted March 27-April 9, 2018, roughly seven-in-ten Americans (72%) say it is essential for the continue to be a world leader in space exploration.

"Any assumption that ending direct federal funding frees up $3 to $4 billion beginning in wishful thinking", Martin told congress. Gerst is the only astronaut of the mission that had participated in a space mission in 2014.

The 58% of USA adults who say they wouldn't want to orbit the Earth aboard a spacecraft believe that such a trip would be either "too expensive" (28% of those asked) or "too scary" (28%), or that their age or health wouldn't allow it (28%).

Mark Mulqueen, Boeing's space station program manager, was skeptical of the idea.

However, if NASA were to send expeditions into space, a majority of Americans say they consider it essential that humans, not exclusively robots, make the trip. "We need commercial to step up in ways that we haven't seen before", he said.

Sending astronauts to Mars: 18% top priority, 45% important but lower priority, 37% not too important or should not be done. Since then, astronauts have paid more than $70 million per seat for a ride to the ISS on Russia's Soyuz spaceships.
