The Nets' Dwight Howard era is already ending

  • Charlotte Hornets stars Muggsy Bogues from left Larry Johnson and Alonzo Mourning were so popular locally in 1995 that a mural was painted of them on an uptown building in 1995

It will be interesting to see if Dwight, who averaged 16.6 points and 12.5 rebounds per game, looks to secure what could be his last National Basketball Association contract or perhaps join a contender, assuming he reaches a buyout with Brooklyn.

Dwight Howard isn't looking to stay with the Nets. A successful buyout will allow Howard to enter free agency later this summer.

"This year was an opportunity for me to show what type of player I am and where I can go", he said. "That's my only goal".

But Howard was reportedly so toxic in the Charlotte Hornets locker room that several teammates complained they were "sick and exhausted of his act", which led to the Hornets trading him for pennies on the dollar simply to rid themselves of his presence. According to Haynes, the trade between the Nets and Hornets which won't become official until July 6, blindsided Howard. "All I need is a real chance and a clean slate where it's not people talking about my past". According to ESPN, Howard said he was "in total shock" after learning of the deal. While his skill set has been in decline over the last few year, Howard bounced back and had one of his best seasons in 2017-18 where he averaged almost 17 points, 13 rebounds and one block in 81 games.

Selected with the No. 1 pick in the 2004 draft by the Orlando Magic, Howard has also played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets and Atlanta Hawks.
