"South Korea will have mixed feelings toward Trump's remarks", said Lee Il-woo, a director at Korea Defense Network in Seoul.

President Donald Trump said he "felt foolish" engaging in the name-calling and rhetoric with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in the months leading up to their historic agreement, but said without it, "we wouldn't have been here".

"Under the circumstances, that we're negotiating".

"I think without the rhetoric, we wouldn't have been here", Mr. Trump said.

"They are tremendously expensive, the amount of money we spend on that is incredible and South Korea contributes but not 100 percent which is certainly a subject that we need to talk to them about also and that has to do with the military expenditures and also the trade".

The wording recalls Seoul's reaction to Trump's initial cancellation of the summit with Kim two weeks ago, after North Korean officials lobbed personal insults at National Security Adviser John Bolton and Vice President Mike Pence.

Wang said in a statement earlier that China welcomed and supported the summit between the United States and North Korean leaders and hoped the two countries could reach a basic consensus on achieving denuclearisation.

I just think that we are now we are going to start the process of denuclearization of North Korea, and I believe that he's going back and will start it virtually immediately, and he's already indicated that and you look at what he's done. It's "stunning" and "not to be minimized in any way", but it's also important to remember that "Kim Jong Un has given up nothing at this point".

"At the same time, there needs to be a peace mechanism for the peninsula, to resolve North Korea's reasonable security concerns", he added. Trump described the exercises as "very provocative" and said Pyongyang "very much appreciated" seeing the exercises end.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and North Korean officials would hold follow-up negotiations "at the earliest possible date", the statement said.

Yes. The Kim dynasty, under Kim's father, Kim Jong Il, signed a treaty with the U.S.in 1994, known as the Agreed Framework. The United States and the DPRK will join their efforts to build a lasting and stable peace regime on the Korean Peninsula. 3.
