Roseanne Barr said she pleaded with network brass to save her show before ABC cancelled it in the wake of an offensive and racist tweet by her earlier this week.

TMZ was first to report on Friday that ABC was exploring the possibility of "rebranding" the show to focus on the character Darlene instead of Rosanne, who is played by Barr.

"Two knowledgeable sources" tell THR that Barr "offered an emotional and rambling mea culpa" for her offensive tweet, even breaking into tears at various points in the discussion. "I believe in one law for all people, I love all people". More than 100 people worked on the show, meaning they became unemployed when executives canned future production.

"He said: what were you thinking when you did this?" revealed Barr on Twitter. "Not a chance. See her tweets from today", the source noted. Whether or not they'll rush a totally new and separate show starring John Goodman and Laurie Metcalf into production remains unclear (and also super risky, as the fall TV season is just a few months away).

She also repeated the excuse she has publicly given for likening Valerie Jarrett, a former top aide to president Barack Obama, to an ape.

Many "Roseanne" fans have taken to social media to suggest different reboot options for the show.

But by the afternoon, Barr had cycled back to diplomacy, tweeting to Fishman and Gilbert that she forgave and loved them both, and merely wished they'd spoken to her privately rather than condemning her in public.

After replying with a "Wow! unreal" tweet, Barr went on to say that she understands Gilbert's position and "why she said what she said".

It's understandable that ABC would want to salvage the series in some way, given Roseanne was one of the biggest shows on television. She later deleted the tweet.

After initially picking up the ratings juggernaut for an 11th season, ABC made a decision to cancel Roseanne following Barr's tweet about Jarrett, which read, "Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj".
