  • Raccoon Scaling St. Paul Skyscraper Sets Off Social Media Firestorm

The raccoon started climbing the UBS skyscraper in Minnesota earlier today and people around the world are now waiting for it to return to earth safely.

Instead, the spooked animal began scaling the slightly-curved edifice of the building, not stopping until it reached UBS's 22nd floor, where it began licking the window of a swanky office.

- A raccoon got itself into quite a predicament as it scaled a tower in St. Paul Minnesota. Minnesota Public Radio, from a building less than a block away, branded the raccoon #mprraccoon. When a maintenance crew tried to help the raccoon get down from the ledge Tuesday, he jumped to the nearby UBS Plaza building and climbed 20 stories, according to the public radio station.

A raccoon that became an internet sensation by scaling a 25-story office tower in downtown St. Paul was safely trapped early Wednesday, and animal control officials were preparing to release it back into the wild.

Naturally, someone who is decidedly not the raccoon has started a Twitter account on the critter's behalf.

"I am so proud of this little rascal - such a fricking champ!", said Dana Frazer as she watched a live feed of the raccoon's climb on Periscope, a live streaming site. And around 12:30 p.m., Pioneer Press reporter Tad Vezner captured a couple of shots of the raccoon apparently taking a nap on the other side of the window.

We certainly hope this all ends happily, but we can't say exactly when that will be.

This little guy had legions of social media users anxious for his safety after scaling the UBS Tower in St. Paul, Minn., but all is well.

Twitter has been closely following the plight of the li'l' guy the entire time - posting updates about his direction of travel up and down the UBS building and heaps of shots of him luxuriating on ledges.
