Gaza: Some 400 Palestinians, including two journalists, were wounded by Israeli fire or treated for tear gas inhalation poisoning, during protests at the Gaza-Israel separation fence, officials from the Gaza's Health Ministry said on Friday. At least 413 Palestinians were wounded, including 80 by live fire, Gaza health officials said.

As demonstrators approached the border, they were confronted by Israeli troops.

Among the protesters killed was a 15-year-old identified as Haitham Mohammed al Jamal.

French news agency Agence France Press said one of its photographers, Mohammed Abed al-Baba, was wounded at a mass rally after Israeli forces opened fire.

The United States shifted its Israeli embassy to Jerusalem in May on the 70th anniversary of the creation of Israel, in a move met with condemnation from the Palestinians and many of Washington's global allies.

The firebombs also reportedly burned down several tent encampments that had been set up for weeks by protesters participating in the ongoing "Great March of Return" in Gaza. He said, "They tried to use sport as a tool for political ends, and for this I think, they failed".

Israel sees the BDS movement as a strategic threat and accuses it of anti-Semitism - a claim activists firmly deny, calling it an attempt to discredit them.

Mr Mansour said the USA veto triggered the request and that Friday's violence "adds to our argument and to the urgency of providing global protection" to Palestinian civilians.

The tradition of marking "Al-Quds day" - the day of Jerusalem - was initiated by Iran in 1979 and falls on the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan.

Since March, Palestinians have sent kites and balloons with flaming materials into Israeli territory, setting hundreds of blazes that have destroyed Israeli fields and nature reserves to the tune of around NIS 5 million.

"Washington's gross insult and hostile act against the Palestinian people, symbolized in the split-screen reality of the embassy inauguration in Jerusalem while there was an ongoing massacre in Gaza, is not going to prevent us from talking about peace". -AFP Israeli soldiers take position during clashes with Palestinian protesters following a weekly demonstration against the expropriation of Palestinian land by Israel in the village of Kfar Qaddum, near Nablus in the occupied West Bank. Israel and Hamas, which seeks Israel's destruction, have fought three cross-border wars since 2008.

The General Assembly last held a vote on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in December, when it condemned the United States for its decision to move its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv.

"We are not asking for the moon", one protester, Amer Abu Khalaf, said, explaining the protest aimed to "break the siege and have the world recognise [Palestine's] right to return".

Israel has long refused to admit Palestinian refugees, saying they belong in a future Palestinian state.
