  • Israeli firefighters extinguish a fire in a field in southern Israel caused by kites flown by Palestinians from the Gaza Strip

A preliminary investigation by the Israeli occupation army, published on Tuesday, claimed that the paramedic Razan al-Najjar did not die from "a direct bullet fired at her" but rather was shot by accident.

The Hamas-led demonstrations have been fueled by despair over a decade-old Israel-Egyptian blockade, imposed after the Islamic militant group seized control of the territory.

On Thursday evening, Hamas announced that it hopes over 40,000 people will come to Gaza's border with Israel for the demonstration on the last Friday of Ramadan as part of the annual protests to mark al-Quds Day, so called for the Arabic name for Jerusalem. Some protesters have hurled flaming tires and firebombs toward the fence, and in some cases have tried to break through.

The kites, laden with burning rags or small explosives, have been especially hard to stop.

Israel's Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan recommended targeted assassinations against the kite-flyers and the Hamas commanders overseeing them. Following the demonstrations, organizers said Naksa Day - which commemorates the Arab loss in the 1967 Six Day War and is marked on June 5 - would be the next large protest.

The Israeli military had no reaction to Erdan's comments.

Israel's high-tech army has not been able to figure out a way stop the primitive kites.

About 200 have floated across the border, torching mpre than 2,000 acres of farmland. One of the fires was sighted just across the street from Sderot's Sapir College, with another tearing through grazing lands.

Eyewitnesses said the soldiers assassinated the Palestinian, directly and repeatedly firing at him, in addition to attacking dozens of Palestinians.

The Shin Bet says a resident of a Palestinian refugee camp in east Jerusalem is among those in custody for his involvement in the plot, orchestrated from Syria, to harm Netanyahu and Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat.

It said Mahmad Rashdeh had also collected intelligence for a Syrian handler to target the U.S. Consulate in Jerusalem and visiting Canadian officials. It says the plan involved sneaking in an operative from Jordan and "significant terrorist activity" was foiled.
