Jaguar E-Pace adds 'self learning' Smart Settings and 200PS petrol engine

The E-Pace inherits Jaguar's Smart Settings artificially intelligent machine learning system from the I-Pace that can store up to 10 driver profiles. For example, it will heat the steering wheel in colder weather without prompting if the driver has done this in the same conditions multiple times.

The Predictive Call List feature learns patterns of phone use to suggest calling certain people in your phonebook at a certain time.

Smart Settings is offered as part of the Connect Pro Pack, which also consists of a 4G Wi-Fi Hotspot, Pro Services and Navigation Pro - offering real-time traffic information, door-to-door routing from your smartphone, street view and parking availability.

According to Jaguar, the system learns about driver patterns based on time, location and weather-based behaviour patterns, which means the auto will eventually be able to pre-heat the seats if it thinks the driver is about to commute and it's chilly outside - at least, that's the example provided.

All E-Pace engines are now equipped with a particulate filter for a further reduction in emissions.

Adaptive Dynamics uses continuously variable damper technology with a triple-tube design and externally mounted hydraulic valves. The set-up delivers faster responses and a dedicated off-road tune. It monitors body movement every two milliseconds and tweaks the dampers accordingly, in an attempt to deliver a relaxed ride on rough roads, and a sporty one when the driver demands.

Alongside the new engine, Jaguar's introducing clever self-learning technology dubbed Smart Settings. It responds to the driver's input and road surface changes to provide better control and minimise body roll.

It's a punchy engine, and can accelerate from 0-60mph in 7.7 seconds, and has a claimed fuel economy figure of 34.4mpg and Carbon dioxide emissions of 186g/km. The filters are integrated into the after-treatment system and trap ultrafine particulates as the exhaust gases pass through.

Another addition to the E-Pace range is adaptive suspension. In a petrol engine, under normal driving conditions, the trapped soot will be oxidised into Carbon dioxide and the filter regenerated whenever the driver lifts off the accelerator, Jaguar said.
