The fresh development has expanded the shopping experience on Instagram as previously its feed was exclusively serving ads to let customers buy new products without leaving the photo-sharing platform. The new shopping feature makes it easier to tag multiple products in the same Story.

Brands can now add shopping bag stickers within the story, which users can then tap on to view the product.

Citing a recent survey conducted by MetrixLab, Instagram highlights that its users often watch stories to stay in-the-know with brands they're interested in, get an insider view of products they like, and learn about new products that are relevant to them.

Today, via their blog, Instagram announced that they are expanding the shopping functionality to Stories.

Instagram is the second most popular social media platform among USA teens between the ages of 13 and 17, according to a survey by the Pew Research Center.

Instagram had been strengthening its position in the e-commerce market by allowing brands to put links in their stories, but those items couldn't be tagged and purchased directly.

"Shoppers on Instagram are savvy".

"People are looking to follow businesses on the platform-there are 200 million Instagrammers who visit a business profile every day", Levine said. Instagram made no mention about how the average business page can add these stickers to stories, and it's not known if the feature will eventually be made available to everyone.
