Hua responded thus to new reports circulated yesterday about the evacuation of two USA officials working in the consulate of the southern city of Guangzhou due to mysterious health symptoms, registered before in another government official.

CNN reported earlier this week a number of USA personnel in China have been sent back to the United States for further health screenings after concerns over reports of mysterious acoustic incidents similar to the Cuba "sonic attacks". It is also the only US diplomatic installation in China authorized to process immigrant visas and handle adoptions.

"Two individuals from the US Embassy in Havana are undergoing medical evaluation", the official said.

Cuba said it sent investigators to the home who found no potential source of a sound and were not granted access to the official. The U.S. government has deemed those incidents "specific attacks" on American workers but hasn't publicly identified a cause or culprit. There is a USA medical team in Guangzhou assessing whether more people need to leave China, the Associated Press reported.

The medical screenings in China are continuing, Nauert said.

Asked about the latest incidents, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said Thursday that the US had not formally raised the matter with Beijing.

BEIJING-The U.S. State Department on June 8 issued an expanded health alert for all of China amid reports that some U.S. diplomats based in the country had experienced a mysterious malady resembling a brain injury.

The Penn team said the patients from Cuba experienced persistent disability though rehabilitation therapy customized for them seemed to help.

In 2017 in Cuba at least 22 American diplomat and their family members have suffered as a result of the mysterious "acoustic attack".

In April, Canada, whose personnel were also stricken, said it would remove families of diplomats posted at its embassy in Cuba as information from medical specialists has raised concerns of a new type of brain injury.

US personnel in Havana began reporting the incidents in 2016, and they were first disclosed publicly a year ago.

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, which has partly rolled back a detente with Cuba, first charged diplomats were the victims of "sonic attacks" and Cuba as the host country was at a minimum responsible for their safety.

"Hard to get my head around how it works", he said.

"For me I feel it's very unusual".
