  • Rebel Wilson's record-breaking $4.5million defamation payout is SLASHED to just $600,000 on appeal

Rebel Wilson's defamation payout from Bauer Media has been cut from $4.5m to $600,000 in court today.

According to Buzzfeed, the judge denied Wilson "special damages" stating she had not proven that the defamation cost her work.

In June a year ago a six-person jury found in favour of Wilson's claim against the publisher of Woman's Day and the Australian Women's Weekly.

Australian actress Rebel Wilson speaks to the media out the front of the Victorian Supreme Court after a jury of six has returned unanimous verdicts in favour of Wilson against Bauer Media.

"Bully" magazine publisher Bauer Media had appealed against a Supreme Court of Victoria order that the Pitch Perfect star be compensated a record $650,000 in general damages and $3,917,472 in special damages.

Wilson had initially taken the media group to court over a series of articles that she claims painted her as a serial liar who bluffed her way into Hollywood - chief among Bauer's claims was that she had continuously lied about her age - and as a result was sacked from planned roles on the films Trolls and Kung Fu Panda 3.

'The trial judge erred in finding the plaintiff had established, on the balance of probabilities, the loss of an opportunity to earn US$15 million from being cast in lead or co-lead roles in three feature films, ' the judgement said. The legal process has run its course and Bauer welcomes the court's decision to set aside the entire award of damages for economic loss.

The actress she won her defamation case against Bauer Media in September past year. Bauer Media immediately said it would appeal the record-breaking payment.

"The Court of Appeal in Australia will be handing down their decision in the morning re my defamation case against @bauermedia".

Wilson still maintains outward assertions that she will donate whatever payout she receives to charities, as well as reinvesting in the Australian film industry.

Now, nearly two months later, it sounds like the actress is ready to put it all behind her. "As I've said before, I have already won the case and this is unchallenged".

"I'm away on location in Europe filming right now", she tweeted.
