A new report claims that Apple will be focusing more on software during the event, while new hardware will be unveiled sometime after. Additionally, the company will also introduce tools for tracking the stock market.

Apps that use Apple's ARKit technology for augmented reality can add immersion to fun and educational experiences, but this year, we'll see the next big step.

According to a new report from Reuters, ARKit 2.0 will allow multiple iOS devices to share the same virtual environment.

Traditionally, Apple makes new versions of its operating systems available to developers shortly after the WWDC keynote speech concludes. Users shouldn't expect a redesign of the iPhone Home Screen because Apple may have already made a decision to postpone that change to next year. Then with iOS 11, the Cupertino, California-based tech company allowed third-party apps to access the NFC chip but with limited access.

Most of this year's WWDC will still be devoted to making users want to pick up Apple gadgets. In some cities in the UK, Japan and the U.S., commuters can already pay transport fares using either an NFC chip or FeliCa Chip (found in the iPhone 7, 8 and X).

Apple's education event in March 2018 introduced a new entry-level iPad that includes support for the Apple Pencil; subsequently, I don't expect Apple to announce much regarding its iPad line.

While it's certainly not as exciting or scintillating as seeing what Apple designers and developers could do with such innovations, I expect Apple will announce more pedestrian improvements to its existing MacBook and MacBook Pro lineups.

The focus this year will be on integrating more deeply with iOS. This is part of Apple's plan to make a video equivalent of its Apple Music offering, which Macworld suggests is confirmed by recent appointments of TV and film experts to its executive, as well as previous promises to invest heavily in its own content.

Apple is finally delivering on some promises it made a year ago about its HomePod speaker, including giving the device the ability to link with another for stereo sound.

Since launching in 2015, the Apple Watch operating system, called watchOS, hasn't caught on as a major platform for developers, with big names like Instagram, Google Maps, Twitter, Amazon and eBay discontinuing their watch apps. Some commentators, however, predict the company may debut a new Apple watch at WWDC18.

As for iPad, Apple could unveil new devices with the firm's latest A11 processor, already used in the firm's latest iPhone handsets. And in March, an advocacy group also urged Apple to implement new iOS features that would help combat an increasing "smartphone addiction epidemic". While similar in appearance, as the cheaper iPhone of the bunch it will utilize an LCD display instead of the fancier OLED and feature aluminum casing and just a single rear camera.
