Amick told Fox News that a wide array of health issues pertaining to Boyd's weight contributed to his death, including heart and kidney failure as well as liver disease.

As victor of "America's Got Talent" a decade ago, Boyd received $1 million and headlined a Las Vegas show.

Early a year ago, the Season 3 victor blacked out and crashed while driving and he had been slowly recovering since then, according to TMZ.

The record shot to number three in the Top Classical Albums Chart, while he also bagged a headline show in Las Vegas.

He passed away at around 6pm on Sunday evening (June 10) at his mother's home in Sikeston, Missouri. "We have to be able to get me back up on my feet again, because I'm still walking with a walker". The singer was reportedly at his mother's home at the time.

The opera singer won the competitive series in 2008 and released his first album, My American Dream, the following year.

In 2011, the singer ran as Republican for the Missouri House of Representatives.

When news broke of Boyd's passing, British media personality Piers Morgan - who at the time was a judge on the Boyd's season, along with Sharon Osbourne and David Hasselhoff - expressed his sympathy on Twitter, as did celebrity gossip columnist Perez Hilton.

"You never know what's going to happen next", he said.
