Warriors struggle against New Orleans Pelicans, lose Game 3 100-119

Over the first two games, the Warriors' bench outplayed that of the Pelicans, and the Dubs won both games. The biggest difference was the decisiveness with which Davis continually made the next play - whether it was a shot, a drive, a pass, a cut, or a screen - and kept the Pelicans' offense flowing all night. Their energy on the defensive end was much more impressive than in either of the first two games. The Warriors were one of the best teams in the league at defending the rim without fouling during the regular season and they've done an excellent job in this series as well.

Both teams talked about the importance of getting off to a fast start, but only the Pelicans followed through on that. "(In Game 2), we had a lot of open shots that we just didn't get in the basket.

The Pelicans proved they can hang with the Warriors in their blowout win in Game 3 of their playoff series. Part of the reason was Klay Thompson, who had been getting good looks for a couple of games but not shooting like he's expected to, finding his groove and scoring 20 in the second quarter. I'm sitting at the locker room waiting to get in here, and he took forever.

"We feel we're a great team", said Pelicans guard Rajon Rondo. The Warriors never led by more than a single point and trailed by double digits for nearly the entire first half, going down by 25 points in the third quarter and 26 in the fourth. Yet, the normally proficient Curry scored 19 points while shooting only 6-of-19 from the field and 3-of-9 3-point range.

And if they're making shots, they become risky.

The third quarter is when things began to get out of hand.

Ever since Kevin Durant joined the Warriors in the summer of 2016, they have been overwhelming favorites to win consecutive National Basketball Association titles. This time, Rondo backed it up with 21 assists.

The Pelicans held the Warriors to just 38% from the field through three quarters, while the Pelicans shot 46% from downtown by the time the fourth quarter began.

Entering their eighth game of this postseason, however - Game 3 of their Western Conference semifinal against the New Orleans Pelicans - those questions have been answered. Draymond Green finished an assist away from a triple-double. "Before you know it, a 20-point lead was nine points, seven points and then all of a sudden Steph made a shot out of the corner (to send the game to overtime)".

Green almost finished with a triple double in the loss-posting 11 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists-but he committed seven turnovers and was a minus-25 in 36 minutes.

Although he scored just four points on 2-of-11 shooting in 37 minutes, Rondo dished out a playoff career-high 21 assists and also pulled down 10 boards. The former Bulls forward scored 16 and added 13 rebounds. At one point late in the second quarter, New Orleans was 10-of-15 from 3, while Golden State was just 5-of-15. Despite that, Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry said he was "never comfortable" because of how "scary" the Warriors are.
