The meeting was being convened on the suggestion of Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, said Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director-General Major-General Asif Ghafoor.

A meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC), presided over by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, was held to discuss the situation arising out of the recent by Sharif about the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

The NSC meeting reviewed the recent statement in the context of Mumbai attacks and unanimously termed the remarks as incorrect and misleading, said a statement issued after the meeting. "Being held tomorrow morning", without naming Sharif and the media outlet.

In the interview, Sharif said: "We have isolated ourselves".

"Despite our 50,000 sacrifices [of lives], why is the world not paying heed to our narrative? We must look into it", he said before speaking on the Mumbai attack.

Nawaz Sharif is under attack from his opponents as well as some of the estranged leaders from his Pakistan Muslims League-Nawaz (PML-N) party for allegedly supporting the Indian narrative on the Mumbai attack case and harming national interests.

Ms Rehman said no democratic state would ever allow non-state actors to go maim, plunder and loot across its border. Explain it to me. "Why can't we complete the trial?", Sharif said according to Dawn, referring to a stalled anti-terrorism trial over the attacks in India's financial capital.

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Monday that he will speak the truth without fearing any consequences. In April this year, the Pakistani Supreme Court barred him from holding any public position for life.

His remarks were played up by the Indian media as an admission of Pakistan's involvement in the terrorist attacks, even though similar questions and statements have been raised from civilian and security officials in Pakistan earlier.

It also reviewed controversial statement of the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Meanwhile, main opposition parties condemned Sharif's statement about the Mumbai attacks and sought his trial under treason charges.

However, despite Sharif's personal opinion, there wasn't much progress in prosecuting the masterminds behind the 26/11 attacks during his tenure. "Nawaz Sharif's statement is tantamount to treason".

In an an exclusive interview with Dawn on Friday, Sharif also criticised the apparent delay in the conclusion of the Mumbai attack trial.

While Pakistan started the process of prosecuting suspects behind 26/11, so far none of the seven Lashkar-e-Tayyaba terrorists have been punished. When he first became the Prime Minister in 1990 he attempted to create an economy based on privatization and economic liberalization in order to pave the way for Pakistan's rapid industrial development.
